Why do I have to pay to drop off my fridge at my local transfer station or landfill?

Government licensed Freon removal technicians use special machines to recapture and recycle the Freon for new fridges. The technicians' training, equipment and time cost money and these expenses are sometimes recovered through fees charged at the disposal facility.
