What do I do with small appliances?

Small appliances such as toasters and kettles are usually made with a variety of materials including plastic, glass and metal. Due to this, they are not commonly accepted for recycling through most municipal recycling programs.
If small appliances are in working condition, they may be accepted as a donation by local charities or organizations. There may also be other individuals or families who could use it if it is posted on the RCBC Materials Exchange, www.bc.reuses.com.

For non-working small appliances, there are a few private recycling companies in BC that do accept these materials for refurbishing, repair or parts. To find any options in your community call the RCBC Recycling Hotline at 604-RECYCLE or 1-800-667-4321.
