What can I do with my old junk car?

There are several programs in BC that collect scrap cars as charitable donations. Additionally, junk cars may be accepted by scrap metal recyclers for their metal components and/or parts. For local options, contact the RCBC Recycling Hotline.

If you have a 1995 or older vehicle that is running and has been insured for the last 6 months, you may qualify for the BC Scrap-It Program. In partnership with Retire Your Ride, the program offers a long list of incentives for trading in your old car, including transit passes, bicycles, car-sharing memberships, new or used cars, or $300 cash. Need more information? Contact the RCBC Recycling Hotline.
