RCBC Backgrounder: 'Degradable Plastic Bags'

Summary:
As the use of degradable plastic increases, so does the confusion surrounding the environmental claims put forward by the degradable bag industry. RCBC has created this backgrounder with the hope of better informing the public, elected officials and the media. This document provides an overview of degradable plastics and outlines some of the principal concerns surrounding the use of oxo‐biodegradable plastics, a degradable plastic increasingly being used in disposable carrier bags.

Examining the Waste-to-Energy Option

Summary:
The Recycling Council of B.C. (RCBC) has produced a background paper which examines the current waste-to-energy discussion within Metro Vancouver and, in particular, examines the proposal by Plasco Energy, since this company has provided one of the more detailed, serious and innovative proposals to Metro Vancouver. The paper provides unbiased information about WTE technology and the proposals that have recently been submitted to Metro Vancouver, and the expected environmental performance of the technology.

B.C. Municipal Solid Waste Tracking Reports

The B.C. Ministry of Environment has been tracking progress in reducing the amount of municipal solid waste (MSW) requiring disposal by means of annual MSW Tracking Reports, containing data supplied by regional districts.
